About Ramesh Bhai
Ramesh Bhai Srivastava (born May 1, 1951, in Thamarawa village, Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh) was a Gandhian social reformer and the founding president of Sarvodaya Ashram. Deeply inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and Acharya Vinoba Bhave, he devoted his life to poverty eradication, women’s empowerment, and rural development.
He pioneered the Sodic Land Reclamation Program, transforming infertile lands into fertile fields and empowering thousands of landless farmers across Uttar Pradesh. His efforts led to the World Bank–supported Sodic Land Reclamation Project through UPLDC.
Ramesh Bhai also served as General Secretary of the All India Harijan Sevak Sangh, founded by Gandhi, and was honored by the Chief Justice of India for his outstanding work in social justice. Known for his simplicity, compassion, and dedication, he established schools for girls, promoted peace and communal harmony, and inspired generations with his Gandhian ideals.
His legacy continues through Sarvodaya Ashram, a symbol of hope, education, and rural transformation.
Honoring the Founding Pillars of Sarvodaya Ashram
The remarkable journey of Sarvodaya Ashram stands as a testament to the vision, perseverance, and selfless dedication of individuals who gave their time, intellect, and resources to build an institution rooted in service and humanity. These pioneers laid the foundation of an organization that continues to uphold the values of truth, compassion, and social justice.
Many among them served as board members, offering wise counsel and steadfast leadership that guided the Ashram through its formative years. Though some are no longer with us, their spirit of service continues to inspire every initiative and every life touched by Sarvodaya’s mission.
